flocabulary: august wilson.

I had a blast working with Flocabulary/Nearpod on an animated music video to celebrate August Wilson’s long and wonderful career. The animation was a part of their Black History Month series, featuring influential Black folks and their impact in the US. The video is meant for grades 4 to 12.

Flocabulary gave me free creative reign on this project, so I went with a fun, jazzy palette with some brush textures and a clean illustration style focused heavily on readability and strong shapes. For the character design, I wanted the people to look like people instead of cartoon versions of themselves, so I looked at reference photos and did not exaggerate any features — more so, I merely simplified features for readability and ease of distinguishing differences.
